custom renders whatever you put in layouts/_partials/home/custom.html in your own site, so there is nothing fixed to show. The theme ships a stub that deliberately emits a build warning when it has not been overridden, which is why this page describes it rather than rendering it: the build gate treats warnings as errors, and a demo should not need an exception.
